4 of 4 people found the following review helpful solidly constructured, easy to clean., By This review is from: Tom Douglas by Pinzon All-Purpose Stainless-Steel Utility Scissors (Kitchen) Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) My family mocks me for my scissors collection, which I suppose might accurately hint that I take my scissors seriously. There's no more useful or versatile tool, in my opinion, for every room in the house, and I have been eagerly awaiting this pair.As I had hoped I would, I love them. They are a good weight, but not too heavy. They're well balanced for comfortable use and perfectly proportioned at least for this woman's hand. The slightly cushioned handles makes using them a pleasure even for difficult cutting tasks...but with the traction and sharpness these scissors have, tasks are not as difficult as you'd think they'd be. The blades are close fitted, which is useful for cutting herbs from the plant, as looser fitted shears may mangle and crush stems rather than slicing them cleanly. And I may never use a knife to cut chicken again. My favorite feature at this point is the ease with which these come apart for cleaning. While I don't believe you could easily... I very much like the ability to separate the blades for proper cleaning. Only when you take them apart do you realize how much crud can get caught at the pivot. The blades have remained sharp after about a month of use. I will revisit this review if performance degrades unexpectedly. As for feel, the rubberized grip is nice, but the larger, more rectangular opening (compared to other kitchen scissors) is uncomfortable for me. I probably have average-size hands for a guy. My wife, on the other hand, finds them comfortable, so perhaps my somewhat larger hands aren't a good fit. Your mileage will vary. In any case, regardless of brand, I'm sold on the ability to unhinge the blades. I wouldn't buy a pair of kitchen scissors without the feature.Update after 9 months: while the scissors don't fit me any better than they did before, they have remained very sharp. For this and the ability to clean them easily, I end up going to these scissors first. Cheers. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful Inexpensive, easy to clean, well made, By This review is from: Tom Douglas by Pinzon All-Purpose Stainless-Steel Utility Scissors (Kitchen) Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) EDIT on 3/25These are fantastic! Sharp, easy to clean & inexpensive. - raised rating to 5 stars - ------ I haven't cut anything really tough with them yet, but they have done well with regular kitchen tasks. They have large handles, so full size hands can grip them just as well as smaller hands. I'm not left handed, but as far as I can tell, they'd work just fine for lefties. The handles aren't the most comfortable handles ever, but it's a tool you only use for short periods of time. They come apart in a simple motion (but not accidentally) so you can easily sharpen or clean them. They seem to be well made, with attention to detail and edges. I'm a bit surprised that for this price, they come from Japan, rather than china or India. I like them, and they should be in my kitchen for years to come. |
