I hand wash & store these on their own, yet have noticed the black plastic around the metal cutting blades is breaking off in chunks. I know this is not from mistreatment or overuse, and I really feel the plastic used on these scissors is rather brittle. For the price, they work well, but I would not recommend this product for the long haul or heavy use. They cut just about anything, but, because they are made of some sort of compound plastic, these scissors may break if stressed too hard. I keep one in the kitchen, one at my desk, one in the garage, and one in the garden shed. They are very sharp, cut neat clean lines, and have both a straight edge and serrated edge.
